People will buy anything

I saw this video today that shows that even if you have a ridiculous product, there are people out there that will buy it.

Infomercial advertisers generally market to people with not a lot of money (probably because they watch TV during the day) but it is still a competitive market, so they use a lot of strategies that I learnt from Jay Abraham, such as:

  • Guarantees - the customer knows that they can send it back if they don't like it = no risk
  • Scarcity - "Be one of the next 500 callers to receive..."
  • Discounts - 2 for 1 or "usually $199.99, today only $49.99 + $99.99 postage"
  • Payment Plans - making it easy for the customer to do buy the product
  • Endorsements - getting a celebrity to say they love using the product

Can you think of any other strategies used by infomerical advertisers?
